Ukraine - South Ukraine Regional Transmission Network Development
NPC Ukrenergo aims at de-bottlenecking the regional network (up to 750 kV) in South Ukraine for more efficient and reliable power supply and at accelerating the integration of solar and wind power into the national power grid within the next 15 years. The Consultant was appointed to assist NPC Ukrenergo to assess the implication of installing sizeable solar and wind power generation capacities in Ukraine.
The project is divided in two phases:
- Phase I: Regional Power Network Development Master Plan and Solar & Wind Power Integration Assessment
- Phase II - Project Preparation of Two Priority Investment Packages.
The assignment has the following main tasks:
- Master planning of the regional power network development at 750, 330, 220 and 110 kV voltage levels in South Ukraine with a 5 and 15-year perspective;
- Determination of the appropriate levels of wind and solar power capacity and appropriate operational and technical parameters for management of such connected capacity;
- Drafting necessary documents regulating technical aspects of solar and wind energy operation in Ukraine;
- Identifying the short and medium-term investments needed to strengthen the regional grid and to increase the capacity of wind and solar power that could be connected in South Ukraine;
- Determination of the required spare generating capacity in an interconnected power system (IPS) based on power balance analysis, type and operational parameters of such generating capacity to compensate fluctuating energy supply by large commercial-scale wind and solar power plants;
- Prioritisation of construction/reinforcement projects to be implemented by 2030;
- Strengthening the Client's capacity to perform better network planning and operation;
- Performing comprehensive technical, economic, commercial and socio environmental feasibility assessment of two projects prioritised among those identified in the master plan.

Gambia - Feasibility Study for Solar PV Development
The Republic of The Gambia, through the National Water and Electricity Company Limited- NAWEC (the Client), is seeking the development of Solar PV power generation in the country. Tanzania - Zanzibar Renewable Energies and Energy Efficiency Programme
The EU has formulated a comprehensive programme to support the RE and EE Initiative in Zanzibar. Mauritania - Solar Energy-Based Rural Electrification in the Aftout Elchargui Region
The Mauritanian Government initiated a national strategy to provide universal access to basic services (water, energy, telecommunication) in rural and suburban areas. In this context, the Government received a loan from the Islamic Development Bank and the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) for the implementation of strategic investments in electricity infrastructure, one of the components being consultancy services for project supervision. The project includes mainly:
- the procurement and installation of (i) one solar PV plant with an estimated capacity of 2.6 MWc and storage, (ii) a diesel back-up system to complement the electricity production (2 diesel gensets), and the optimisation of the envisaged electricity production as per the prevailing conditions
- the construction of approx. 270 km of HV transmission networks and approx. 60 km of LV distribution networks as well as approx. 6,000 consumer connections

Jordan - Green Lending Programme in Jordan - Verification Consultant
AFD has designed a Green Lending Program aiming at scaling up investment by industry and service sectors in energy efficiency (EE), renewable energy (RE) and environmental performance. The Netherlands Development Finance Company (FMO) invests into a 10 MW PV solar power project to be developed, owned and operated by the company Access Uganda Solar Limited. FMO contracted the services of a consultant to carry out lenders' technical, environmental and social due diligence of the project, construction supervision and monitoring of operational performance.
