Gambia - Environmental services for Solar PV development
The Republic of Gambia, through the National Water and Electricity Company Limited- NAWEC (the Client), is seeking the development of Solar PV power generation in the country. The objective of the assignment is to assess the technical viability of constructing solar PV power generation in Gambia. The study includes three models: EPC 20 MW at Jambur, IPP 120 - 130 MW at Soma and separate Battery Energy Storage Systems (grid connected) at Brikama. Furthermore, bidding documents are prepared for the grid connected PV + BESS at Jambur, including grid connection based on WB's standard procurement documents.
intec's services
A range of environmental services were carried out by intec, including the following:
- Project inception and implementation planning
- Solar Resource Assessment, Solar Data and Meteorological Conditions
- Site selection and studies for grid connected photovoltaic and battery energy storage (PV + BESS)
- Options for integration into existing power system
- Analysis of global environmental benefits and performance of legal due diligence
- Preliminary analysis of environmental and social impacts
- Training and capacity strengthening program
- The study emphasises on the carbon gains (avoided carbon emissions) from electricity generation by solar PV from different generation models. For each of them, identification and assessment of relevant environmental and social impacts was carried out in view of identifying the most sustainable option.
(The above services were provided in the framework of the project Feasibility Study for Solar PV Development - Jambur, EPC 20 MW and Soma, IPP 120 - 130 MW)
